Getting outside with a baby is harder than I thought….

As some of you who have been reading awhile may know, the outdoors is my therapy and my refuge.

It’s been amazing getting to know this little one, but it’s also been hard to be cooped up in the house this past month.

We’ve been trying to small daily walks, and on weekends, venturing further.

Today’s post is dedicated to one of my favorite alcohol-free Vegas places–Floyd Lamb Park.

Located on the far North side of Las Vegas, Floyd Lamb Park is about a 30 minute drive from the Strip but so worth the effort!

FYI there is an entry fee, but at $6 per car it’s one of the cheapest ways to spend a day in Vegas.

In true Vegas fashion, the park is named after a former State Senator who was convicted of taking a bribe (FYI the park was named before the conviction…) and the park holds histories dating back to native nevadans as a well used desert oasis.

In the 1980’s the Ranch and buildings area here were added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Some of the buildings have been on the property since as early as 1916, and buildings continued to be added through the 1940’s when the property was going to be used as a “divorce ranch“.

Although you can’t go inside most of the buildings, most of them have signage to give you history and context about their past uses.

The park also hosts some pretty cool things today.

Horses4Heroes is a local nonprofit that serves Veterans, military, and youth and operates out at Floyd Lamb Park.

On the first and third Saturdays of the month, the local Farmer’s Market operates here and it allows free entry into the park–YES!

One thing we always do when we come up here is pack a picnic lunch.

Picnic tables and shady areas abound, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy beautiful weather and sandwiches next to the water.

Fishing is also allowed at Floyd Lamb, but you do have to acquire a license here ahead of time.

It’s a really lovely way to spend the day–walking the paths, seeing families outside playing and eating together, seeing kids fishing with their parents. Truly one of the most special places Vegas has to offer.

If you have an afternoon where you’re looking to feel worlds away from the strip, the $6 and the drive are worth your time…don’t forget to pack that picnic lunch and blanket, maybe even the fishing poles and enjoy the fresh air.
